The Copenhague Series from HAY was designed in collaboration with Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for the new buildings at the University of Copenhagen. The series includes furniture for dormitory rooms, classrooms, and common spaces, and is characterized by its functionality and warmth. The Copenhague Chair is a blend of contrastsits edges are at once hard and soft. The lacquered oak Copenhague Chair is designed to stack with others, creating a decidedly sculptural triangle formation when the chairs are not in use. The chair appears to fold out of the trestle style legs, giving the seat a sense of mobility and lightness, despite its sturdy nature. This stylistic bend creates a visually interesting detail within the chair’s functional core. The result is a chair that marries minimalism with decorative details, making it able to blend in to existing interior spaces while still being a striking piece.
